The Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. The first phase of the airport’s construction is targeted to be completed by then, with the aim of handling around 12 million passengers annually.
This airport is being developed to reduce congestion at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and to serve as a major aviation hub for the region.
The Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport) is being developed in phases, with its capacity increasing over time:
- Phase 1 (by 2024): The airport is expected to handle around 12 million passengers annually.
- Full Completion (by 2040-2050): Once fully completed, the airport is projected to have the capacity to handle up to 70-100 million passengers per year, making it one of the largest airports in India.
The exact capacity will depend on the number of phases completed and the growth in passenger demand over the years.
Which types of facility will be available there to connect with delhi to Noida International Airport
Several connectivity options are being developed to link Delhi with Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport):
- Expressway Connections:
- Yamuna Expressway: This existing expressway connects Greater Noida to Agra and will provide direct access to the airport. Travel time from Delhi to the airport via this route is expected to be around 1.5 to 2 hours.
- Noida-Greater Noida Expressway: This will connect the airport with various parts of Noida and Greater Noida, further linking to Delhi.
- Metro Rail:
- Delhi Metro Extension: Plans are in place to extend the Delhi Metro’s Aqua Line (Noida Metro) from Greater Noida to Jewar Airport. This would provide a direct and convenient public transport option, connecting key locations in Noida and Delhi to the airport.
- High-Speed Rail: There are proposals to establish a high-speed rail link between Delhi and the airport, significantly reducing travel time.
- Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS):
- A Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is being planned to connect Delhi and the airport, which would offer a high-speed, efficient mode of transportation, similar to airport express trains in other major cities.
- Bus Services:
- Dedicated bus services are expected to run between Delhi and the airport, offering an economical option for travelers.
- Private Transportation:
- Taxi services, ride-sharing options, and ample parking facilities will be available at the airport to accommodate private vehicles.
These facilities are being developed to ensure seamless and efficient connectivity between Delhi and the Noida International Airport.
As of now, there is no direct metro line planned to connect Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi directly to Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport). However, you can expect the following connectivity options:
- Delhi Metro and Noida Metro (Indirect Connection):
- Travelers can use the existing Airport Express Line from IGI Airport to reach New Delhi Metro Station.
- From New Delhi or other interchange stations, passengers can transfer to the Yellow Line or other lines to reach the Aqua Line of Noida Metro.
- Once the Aqua Line is extended to Jewar Airport, passengers could eventually reach the airport via this metro route. However, this will involve multiple transfers and is not a direct connection.
- Future Possibilities:
- While no direct metro connection is currently planned between the two airports, there could be potential future developments in transportation infrastructure, such as high-speed rail or express bus services, that could provide faster and more direct connectivity.
For now, the most efficient way to travel between IGI Airport and Noida International Airport might be by road (via expressways) or potentially using a combination of metro and other forms of public or private transport.
The airport is expected to be operational in April 2025 (earlier December 2024). Keep reading to learn more about the Jewar International Airport, including the area, cost, approval process, and construction updates
